Introduction
PISA product lifecycle management system is tightly integrated with Adobe Illustrator. This is accomplished through the PISA Image Connector, which is responsible for suppling updated images to PISA based on the designs created in Adobe Illustrator. When working in Illustrator, specific templates are used which contains different tagged areas for different purposes.
Scenarios
The functionality covers the following scenarios:
- Separate template for materials and products.
- Different number of sheets and areas in different templates.
Prerequisites
In order for the Adobe Illustrator integration to work the following prerequisites must be met:
- Adobe Illustrator must be installed and setup.
- PISA Image Connector must be installed.
Walk through
Templates
To setup the Adobe Illustrator templates, follow the steps below:
- Click the search magnifying icon in the top right corner.
- Search for "Image Connector Templates".
- Click on the corresponding label in the search results.
- A list of all defined templates is shown. Normally separate templates are used for materials and products. Each template can contain a different number of sheets or areas, which in turn are imported into different tables in PISA.
- To view the different defined areas of a template, click "Edit".


Artboards
Below is an example of how the product template looks like in Adobe Illustrator. Each artboard is tagged with an ID.
To add more artboards, follow the steps below:
- In Illustrator, go to "Layers".
- Unlock the layer "PISA".
- Add new artboards as needed.
- Copy the tag and increase the ID with 1.
Design mode
To open Adobe Illustrator in design mode from PISA, follow the steps below:
- Select a product in the product list and open the product details card.
- Click "Drawings" in the right fact box area.
- To create a new drawing, click "Edit from Template".
- If a drawing already exists for the specific product, click "Edit in Illustrator".

The PISA Image Connector will now download the Illustrator file and start a drawing session. The product is left in "Checked-out" mode, which means that its locked for other users to design.
When finished, follow the steps below:
- Open the "PISA Image Connector".
- Locate the checked-out Illustrator file.
- Click "Check In".
The product will be released for design and the sketches are imported to the product in PISA.
